12 Features Specific to Luxury Homes

12 Features Specific to Luxury Homes

Do you know what makes a residence prestigious? Not necessarily the price! In fact, an average-priced home in a metropolitan area can cost just as much as a high-end rural property.

It is a house’s characteristics – both design and architecture-wise – that define it as luxurious. Here are 12 things that are specific to this type of home.

1- Quality Materials

The owners of prestigious properties usually select high-end materials for outfitting their homes, such as marble, quartz, granite, or top-quality hardwood, and will use them throughout the residence.

2- Multiple Bathrooms

A home cannot be qualified as luxurious if it does not include multiple washrooms and bathrooms. It is in fact not uncommon for every bedroom to have its own adjoining bathroom. This is quite extravagant considering the price tag of such rooms! Moreover, average-sized houses don’t typically have enough rooms to accommodate extra washrooms.

3- High Ceilings

One or more rooms with a cathedral ceiling are a frequently a feature of prestigious residences. This makes steeping into the space all the more impressive, and because we don’t feel boxed in by the ceiling, solemn as well.

4- Numerous Rooms

These kinds of homes usually have more rooms than one needs. This is a great opportunity to create various original spaces, such as an artist’s studio, a well-stocked library, an indoor greenhouse, a study lounge, a poker room, etc. How convenient!

5- A Separate Dining Room

While most of us might not mind eating in the kitchen – or even at the counter – prestigious properties invite us to rethink mealtime. They almost always include a closed well-decorated dining room: a high-end table and chairs, a sparkling chandelier, a majestic sideboard, etc. A setting that is sure to please!

6- A Impressive Wine Cellar

It is not always easy to integrate a wine cellar into a home. There are strict building standards that must be met to ensure that the bottles’ content is protected. A luxury residence often already has such a room, and it is usually what seals the deal for potential buyers.

7- A Large Yard

While prestige residences located in city and suburban neighbourhoods can be built on cramped lots, this is not generally the case. Such houses are for the most part constructed on large plots of land that serve to protect the occupants’ privacy.

8- Beautiful Landscaping

Luxury homes are never surrounded by tall grasses and unkempt borders. On the contrary, their yards are carefully landscaped with planting of trees and flowers, all well maintained and pruned. Everything, the paved walkways, decorative rocks, stone walls and wooden fencing, is in immaculate condition!

9- Home Automation

It doesn’t matter if the property is a new build or over a century old, it will have been fitted with a smart home system for the owners’ and their family’s convenience. For example, the lighting adapts itself to outdoor light levels throughout the day, classical music may start to play at dinner time as if by magic, the temperature and humidity are automatically adjusted, etc. Everything you need for an optimally comfortable home!

10 – Dressing Rooms

You won’t have to buy dressers or armoires when you move into this type of property. The closets are so spacious that they occupy an entire room adjacent to each bedroom. Storage is often abundant thanks to a central island as well as the many shelves and hooks that make it possible to put away clothing and accessories crease and wrinkle free. A large mirror complements the decor to ensure that you will look flawless when you leave the room.

11- Large Windows

Unless the property in question is a heritage home, luxury residences take the lead when it comes to large and abundant fenestration. Entire walls, metres high, may be completely composed of windows.

12- A Sophisticated Decor

Lastly, these homes are usually tastefully furnished and decorated. Indeed, it is rare for the owners not to update the interior design regularly through the years to stay on trend.
